Personal project: Dried flowers- 2nd Year

For my Personal Project I have chosen the theme Milky Limonades, and I have linked this throughout my project. The theme I have picked is from the trends of 2016 from Indigo – Premiere Vision. Within this theme I have looked at a number of different research objects and technical processes. To begin with, I have researched dried flowers and in particular the arrangement of the petals and the intricate forms they create as they dry. I have also be looking at the structure and composition of the different stems and leaves. Billy Kidd is a photographer who takes beautiful pictures of dried flowers. This photographer has been my main inspiration for really pushing this project with trying out more experimental drawings. I have transformed this research into fabric manipulation whilst being on the loom and also using hand manipulation, allowing me to achieve a more three-dimensional form. I have taken inspiration for the colours from drawings and my photos of dried flowers, stems and leaves. Many fashion designers have inspired me but three designers have really stimulated my thinking behind this project. These are Georgia Hardinge, Stephane Rolland and Cristina Sirbu.  Research has led me to believe that they are designing for high-end women’s wear, whereas I was more inclined to design for menswear, incorporating the fabric manipulation within menswear and accessories, i.e. bags, for my final outcome of my woven samples. This has enable me to really push the boundaries of men’s fashion, after doing research into this subject. There are many high-end designers that are trying different approaches to men’s fashion, but not many that have incorporated fabric manipulation into menswear. For me this would be great if fabric manipulation could be included in to men’s fashion now and in the future. The yarns that I used are Silk and Wild Silk, I dyed 10 different colours to create warp and weft yarns.  Below is the work that I've created for this project including mood board, Colour board, drawings, woven samples, yarn wraps and visualisations.
